Decorating Tips for Your Living Room

Your living room is the entertainment and living center of your home. Chances are that you've had some very memorable gatherings there, and it is where you relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. due to this room tends to be such a high traffic area, and to have so much time spent in it, it is often the first room to display signs of wear and tear and to begin to look dated. Luckily there are small changes (like switching out light bulbs) and big changes (like installing a new fireplace mantel) that can give your living room a new look and won't turn into a major DIY project, or turn your home into a construction site.

Consider painting your living room. A splash of paint can brighten things up or give your living room a dissimilar vibe altogether. You can repaint your living room the very same color which will refresh the color and get rid of any scuff marks and dings. If you decide to paint the entire room, starting from the ceiling and working down is a good idea. On the other hand, if you'd like a bit of a color change without covering everything in plastic, a feature wall could be an option for you. Picking an interesting color that goes well with the room but adds a little spice can be an excellent way to transform your living room in no time at all.

The fireplace is an often neglected area of many living rooms, and this is a pity due to it can be such a lovely focal point if handled properly. Installing a new fireplace mantel – either buying one for the first time or replacing an existing one – does not take as much work as you think. If you do not have a fireplace mantel, consider getting one as it will give your fireplace a more finished, polished look. If you have a fireplace mantel, replacing it with some thing a little different can have a major impact on your living room. A wood fireplace mantel is easy to install so you don’t have to hire a contractor. You can paint or stain a wood mantel to match the de'cor of your room. Fireplace mantels are excellent places to display items of importance to you and your family such as heirlooms and family pictures. A fireplace mantel is also an excellent place to hang stockings and display cards around Christmas time.

Changing the lighting in your room can also make a major difference. Different lampshades can create a dissimilar atmosphere as they diffuse soft light with a hint of color about the room. If you find your living room a little dull, adding a few more lamps can brighten it up, and also add accent to certain areas. For an even simpler modification, attempt changing the wattage of your existing bulbs. Going from 60 to 120 watts makes a big difference; you might see things you had forgotten were there at all! Changing to a lower wattage can create a cozier, intimate feel.

A little heavy lifting can change your living room; rearranging the furniture can create a totally different feeling in the room. Create a new focal point to the room by orienting the seating around the fireplace and not the television, or perhaps put the couches and chairs so that people are more encouraged to talk to one another. And don’t just think about the seating, moving the coffee table, the end tables and bookcases can make a difference. If you need a new look without buying new furniture consider switching out the living room furniture with items from other rooms of the home

Finally, taking a look at what you have on display in your living room can give you some ideas for small changes that have a high impact. Do you have a vase of fake flowers that has been there for a decade? Perhaps now is a good time to replace it with some thing a little more modern. The artwork you have on your walls might also be due for some scrutiny as well. Prints can be obtained fairly cheaply, and can really change the ambiance of your room. Remember that every little item and picture adds some thing to the room – it is up to you to decide whether or not it should be made a change out for some thing new.

Good Earth Clear Rope Lighting

over here's a neat way to outline a window, archway, ramp, or pillar. Look around your home. What is the most interestingly shaped design feature? Would it look beautiful if it were outlined in the dark by tiny white lights?

attempt running this tube lighting along the lines you wish to accentuate. This would be especially pretty along the arch of a bridge in a garden pond, or overhead along archways in the room's architecture. An atrium lit this way would be especially pleasing, as would the ceiling of a dining room. You'd feel as if you were picnicing under the stars.

This clear PVC tubing encases small light bulbs that are built in. The light bulbs last for 35,000 hours, and the diameter of the tubing is only 3/8 of an inch. This means it is easily used in places where you would trip over some thing larger that protrudes farther. That's why it is often used to light walk ways in gardens, or steps in theaters and restaurants.

The rope comes in different lengths, although the one shown over here is a close up view of part of the shortest (6 foot) model. They can be attached end to finish to make a long continuous strand.

Practical Kitchen Decor Tips

A kitchen where delicious food is created, is a kitchen where the cook feels good about life. What things make you feel good about life? Bring those elements into your kitchen decor.

If romance inspires you to create gorgeous meals, then hang photos of your loved one on the kitchen wall, and train garlands of edible flowers to creep from your windowsill planter box, in through the window, and around it. Place candles around the kitchen, and use romantic lighting when you cook. Your cooking then becomes an offering of devotion, seduction, and admiration.

If your cooking is your connection to your heritage or your ancestors, decorate your kitchen with your ethnic art. Frame one of your favorite ancestral photos, and hang it on the wall.
You can also place old hand written recipes in layers to cover the kitchen table, and then cover that with a sheet of clear glass. This makes a rustically lovely decor focal point, or a classically elegant one if you write the recipes in calligraphy. Your guests will ooh and?ahh over this creative design.

If you want to cook healthful meals, hang a picture of yourself doing a realistic activity that can only be done with a strong healthy body (relative to your own circumstances), and a focused mind. If you have a family, hang photos of them showing off their health and strength as well. For instance, a photo of your child proudly displaying a school assignment that earned a high grade, or flexing her/his biceps and smiling with white teeth, shows the rewards for eating healthful foods. Hang colorful charts depicting the ratio of proteins to carbohydrates that you need, and hang pretty pictures of beautiful organic fruits and vegetables. These will give you an appetite for what is good for you, instead of tempting you to eat junk food. Natural produce comes in all colors (even blue – for blueberries), so you can make a gorgeous rainbow on your wall.

Romantic Room – Decor Tips

Do you want better quality in your love life? Romantic room decor is what you need to set the stage for life's finer experiences. It makes no difference whether you are single or coupled, young or old; a bit of romance in your interior decor can lift your spirits, put you in the right mood for romance, or simply help you to feel more creative and motivated.

over here are two tips that will help you to get started:

1)? The room's lighting is very crucial. Raspberry colored light makes everyone look good, and can be achieved with the use of organza drapes and paper or cloth lampshades.

2) The use of natural materials like bamboo and organic cotton, create soft textures that enrich the room's sensuality.

A romantic room makes you feel more optimistic about life and improves the way you feel about yourself. When you feel better, you look better, and you communicate in a more attractive way. Romantic designs for your home are a good investment in your relationships.

At a first glance, this weird looking gadget may seem out of place on a decor items list, however, there's more than meets the eye over here.

Ivy Lace, White Country Cottage Cotton Tab Top Curtain Panel

Are you designing a white or cream color decor theme? The trick is to layer the room with texture, and then keep the lighting soft, both of which will prevent the color from seeming flat and lifeless. over here's a great start. These curtains are the perfect touch. They will add romance, subtle opulence, and and an antique look like no other. You'll feel like a noble.

Ivy lace and vine scrolls are hand printed by artisans with wooden blocks, creating a cream on ivory background, two toned, textured look. Made of lovely voile cotton gossamer, the sheer fabric is translucent, and creates an ethereal yet warm light to bathe the room. It also allows you privacy, as it isn't transparent.

The curtain measures 84 inches by 46 inches and has a tab top hanging array. It comes with a matching tie back, in case you want to gather it to the side in a sweeping draped fashion.

Continue the theme by adding throw pillows with textured white and cream colored fabrics. Green plants make a good color accent in such a room, due to the leaf pattern on the curtain print will be echoed in the form of such plants as the Wandering Jew, which incidentally loves the diffused light, provided by the curtain.

Make Your Kitchen Decor Enjoyable

Remember, you aren't a ship's galley slave; the kitchen must be pleasant as well as functional. This means, for instance, that you should design your kitchen with lovely windows that look out at a beautiful view. Large windows keep the kitchen from becoming claustrophobic. If the view is nothing special, use window boxes to create a garden view that will obstruct the view of anything ugly.

If your kitchen is dark and the light from the windows has a blue quality to it, use yellow or orange filmy gauze curtains to create a warm sunny glow; it will improve your mood, motivation, and the look of most food. Your artificial lighting should be warm colored as well. Now available are energy saving florescent light bulbs with a warm soft light that doesn't flicker.

Decorate your walls with just a few sparsely placed pieces of art that add splashes of color. This will not shrink or crowd the room visually, and yet it will make the kitchen more homey and personal.

Finally, avoid the ultra modern kitchen designs where every surface is metallic. Those were developed for easy sterilization, but are alienating and harsh when you sit in them. You aren't running a hospital cafeteria. Give your chairs cloth covered cushions in beautiful colors , and use a pretty potted plant or flower as a focal point for the table. Use bamboo or polished stone counter tops , both of which are strong and easy to sterilize, but give the room an earthier feel and a splash of color.

When your kitchen is both lovely and practical, the food will taste and look better. Your happiness and comfort will affect your cooking.
